Type the recipient's name, mobile, short address from the Saudi National Address, city and number of packages, and the shipping label generator draws one label per package, marked "1/3", "2/3" and "3/3". Create the barcodes, then download the labels as a PDF sized for a 100×150 mm thermal label or for A4 paper. The "Internal bill of lading" tab holds a bill of lading for the same packages, for the shipper, driver and consignee to sign.
How the label generator works
The generator draws a label for each package and gives each one a code built from the order number and the package number (for example SO-1001-02), printed as a Code 128 barcode that any scanner reads. The barcode library does not load with the page; it loads when you press Create barcodes or download the labels.
The National Address on a shipping label
A National Address in Saudi Arabia has six parts: building number (4 digits), street, district, city, postal code (5 digits), and secondary number (4 digits), which pins down the exact location where a street name is not enough, according to SPL's National Address page, where it appears as "Secondary #". The short address, 4 letters then 4 digits, condenses all six. Ask the recipient for it: they will find it in the National Address app or SPL's services. If you are new to Saudi deliveries, ask customers for their short address when they order, so it is on file before you pack.
On an English label the address follows the order Saudi Post uses for English mail: building number and street on one line, secondary number and district on the next, then the postal code, and the city in capitals. A parcel that stays inside the Kingdom needs no country line. The example fills in as 3591 Prince Sultan Street / 7712 Al Rawdah Dist. / 23435 / JEDDAH. Write street and district names in English the way they appear on the recipient's National Address certificate, so the driver can match them to the signs.
Enter the short address in simple mode. If the recipient does not know it, switch on advanced mode and fill in building number, street, district, postal code and secondary number. The generator checks length and that the fields are digits; it does not confirm the address exists, which only the National Address services can do.
Bill of lading: what it is and what goes on it
A bill of lading is the document that proves packages were handed to whoever is carrying them: from whom, to whom, how many, their weight, their contents, and any amount to collect. Courier companies issue their own from their systems; the internal one here is for your own van, your rep, or a local carrier with no system, signed by the shipper when the driver collects and by the consignee on arrival.
The bill of lading template downloads as a PDF to print, or in Word if you want to add your own carriage terms. Its table lists every package with its number and code, so the bill matches the labels package by package.
Print sizes
| Size | Printer | When to choose it |
|---|---|---|
| 100×150 mm (about 4×6 in) | Thermal label printer | When you ship every day and stick labels straight onto cartons |
| A4, four labels | Any office printer | A4 label sheets split in four, or plain paper you cut and tape on |
| A4, one label | Any office printer | A large package or carton that needs a label readable from a distance |
Print at 100% scale, not "fit to page", so the barcode keeps its true size.
Common mistakes on shipping labels
- One label on a shipment of several packages, so one arrives and another goes missing without anyone noticing.
- A recipient mobile number missing a digit, so the driver cannot reach them.
- A district name on its own with no building number or short address.
- Sticking the label across the carton's seam, so the barcode tears when it is opened or rewrapped.
- Printing the barcode shrunk with "fit to page", so the scanner cannot read it.
What to do after printing
Stick each label on the top or side face of the carton, away from the corners, hand the bill of lading to the driver, and have them sign for the number of packages before they leave. Keep the signed copy with the delivery note. For the delivery note the customer signs with items and quantities, use the delivery note generator. For barcodes on the items themselves, use the barcode generator.
When orders go out by the dozen every morning
Labels for ten packages take minutes. When delivery vans leave every morning with dozens of orders, each package has to be tied to its order, invoice and collection, and every lost package becomes a dispute with a customer. At Microtec we offer businesses that deliver with their own vans across the Kingdom O-Orange for field sales and distribution. Run it with one delivery van for a week.
