A salary increase request letter is what an employee writes to a manager to ask for a specific raise, backed by results that can be measured. Choose your reason from the tabs: performance, wider duties or cost of living. Type your current and requested salary and your results, and the raise percentage appears in the receipt above the letter and in its text. The last tab is a short email asking for a meeting before you hand in the letter.

In brief

Raise percentage = (requested salary − current salary) ÷ current salary × 100. In the sample, SAR 6,000.00 to SAR 6,600.00 is SAR 600.00 a month, 10%, costing the company SAR 7,200.00 a year.

How to use the salary increase request letter

  1. Pick the tab that matches your reason.
  2. Type your name, company and both salaries into the letter, and edit the list of results or duties with your own figures.
  3. In Advanced mode, add your job title, joining date and who the letter is addressed to, or ask for a percentage instead of an amount.
  4. Copy the text or download it in Word, and send the short email first to book a meeting.

How to write a salary increase request

A convincing request has three parts: an opening with your role and time in it, reasons in figures (a target beaten, customers won, duties taken on), then the amount and a request to meet. Keep the tone calm: "I am writing to request a review of my salary based on…", not "I deserve" or "I can no longer accept". The three versions differ in the opening and the list and share the figures and closing.

When to ask for a raise

The best times are a few weeks before the annual appraisal, after finishing a successful project, or when you formally take on a bigger role. Avoid asking while the company is announcing cost cuts. Start collecting your figures a month ahead, send the short email to book a meeting, then bring the letter. You can download the salary increase request letter in Word to keep your own copy.

How to calculate the raise you ask for

Subtract the current salary from the requested one and divide the difference by the current salary. A fixed amount (SAR 6,600.00) shows the manager exactly what they are signing; a percentage (10%) suits companies that review pay in uniform steps. In Advanced mode you choose either, and in the sample the result is the same. State clearly if you mean basic or total salary, since allowances calculated as a share of basic pay in Saudi Arabia rise with it.

Mistakes that weaken a raise request

  • Comparing yourself with colleagues' pay; compare with your results or published ranges for the role.
  • Hinting at resignation; ask for a meeting instead.
  • Reasons with no figures; "reached 118% of target" beats "worked very hard".
  • A large percentage with nothing behind it; the receipt flags anything above 25%.

The salary increment letter a company issues to confirm a raise is a different document with its own page.

Frequently asked questions

Should I send a salary increase request by email or on paper?

Start with a short email asking for a meeting, then hand in the signed letter at or after the meeting so it stays in your HR file.

How often can I ask for a raise?

Usually once a year, around the appraisal, unless your duties change a lot before then. After a no, wait until the goals you agreed have been met.

Should I name a specific figure?

Yes. A specific figure makes the decision easier, and the template works out the monthly and annual amount and the percentage so you know exactly what you are asking for.

What should I do if my raise request is turned down?

Ask what it would take and when the next review is, and get that in writing. When you ask again, choose After an earlier no in Advanced mode.

Is there an Arabic version of this letter?

Yes. The Arabic page has the same versions in Arabic with masculine or feminine wording, in Word and PDF; the link is below the template above.
